A fan of Parton’s, Blackwell shared with the singer his love for artists like George Jones and Tammy Wynette. As it turns out, Parton agreed with many of his choices.
“I love George Jones. I just think he was the greatest singer ever,” Parton said.
While visiting with Blackwell, Parton sang some of her hits like “Coat of Many Colors,” “Islands In the Stream,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5” while urging him to sing along. Parton was so impressed with their duet she nicknamed him Gage Rogers. “That’s better than Kenny!” she said.
